报告题目：Stochastic processes in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics andsingle-cell biology
Stochastic processes play an important rolein statistical mechanics and single-cell biology, and entered a stage ofvigorous development since 1970s. I will discuss our recent stochasticapproaches to investigate the nonequilibrium thermodynamics of chemicalreaction systems, including the decomposition of entropy production rate, amore stronger version of Clausius inequality, and a balance equation of ageneralized macroscopic free energy. The mathematical theory illustrates how anovel macroscopic dynamic law can emerges from the mesoscopic kinetics in amulti-scale system. I will also discuss a new rate formula for phenotypetransition at the intermediate region of gene-state switching for single cells,the rigorous proof of which needs to integrate the well-known Donsker-Varadhantheory and Freidlin-Wentzell theory of large deviation principle. The new rateformula can explain a "noise enhancer" therapy for HIV reportedrecently, which motivated a future project of us.
